One of the most versatile venues in Chicago, Center Portion offers three adaptable spaces for musical and theatrical performances, panels, corporate training, classes, rituals, just about anything you can envision. There is something exciting happening in these spaces; no matter the event. People who come to Center Portion find themselves in thoughtful conversation—with the artist, the audience, or an idea.
The front studio is arranged like a traditional gallery for the display of paintings, sculpture, and visual objects. The natural wood floors and south-facing windows lend a warmth to the space, which is also ideal for movement classes, rehearsals, or informal panel discussions and group work.
A gem of a 32-seat theater is nestled behind the gallery, with the amenities of a big theater and the intimacy of a small one. The stage area is configured for poetry, story telling, and music. Performers have access to a full light-board, a projector unit and remote-controlled screen as well as an excellent sound system that is specifically mastered for spoken word. The acoustics are such that visiting artists and bands have proclaimed Center Portion their favorite place to play in Chicago.
In the outdoor garden area, you are transported. Sitting in the midst of the stone Celtic Ring, you forget that one of the busiest thoroughfares in the neighborhood is just outside the wooden fence. A summer gathering becomes an opportunity for lively discussion, song, recitation, or ritual with the simple lighting of a fire in the fire pit.
