NEXT EVENT

2012

Schedule TBA

2011 was a banner year of programming at Center Portion, featuring the Mayoral Tutorial, a screening of indie film, Waste Land, and the Holiday concerts with The Crooked Mouth, just to name a few. We are still putting together this year's schedule, and look forward to hosting original writing and performance in our Logan Square space.

There is plenty going on elsewhere in Chicago, and here are a few things Sheila Donohue recommends checking out:

Valentine Party

Midnight Moxie, It's a Girl and Sheila Donohue

Midnight Moxie—Sarah Chang, Nia O'Reilly Amandes, Meg O'Reilly Amandes

It's a Girl—Jason McInnes, Miki Greenberg, Elizabeth Breen, Lindsay Weinberg

Saturday Night - February 13

The party starts at 8:00pm in the gallery, where we'll have all the art materials you need to unleash your creativity on that last minute valentine card(s). Don't wake up on Sunday morning empty handed, with an angry sweetheart giving you the stink eye!

At 9:00pm the all-girl, all-glamorous band, Midnight Moxie will grace the stage. Hearts are sure to flutter—this is one of our all time favorite bands.

Sheila Donohue will read love poetry between the music sets.  And maybe some love/hate poetry, in the proper tradition of the poetry slam sensibility.

Then at 10:00-ish the infamous and utterly unclassifiable indie band It's A Girl returns. They are well on the way to becoming the Center Portion house band! If you've never heard them, you owe it to yourself to be here on Saturday night. Those who have will certainly be back.  Many of the members of the band are veteran Old Town School of Folk Music teachers but this is anything but folk music.
