2011 was a banner year of programming at Center Portion, featuring the Mayoral Tutorial, a screening of indie film, Waste Land, and the Holiday concerts with The Crooked Mouth, just to name a few. We are still putting together this year's schedule, and look forward to hosting original writing and performance in our Logan Square space. There is plenty going on elsewhere in Chicago, and here are a few things Sheila Donohue recommends checking out:

Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Programself-esteem & independence through sailing
The Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Program
(JGASP) includes classroom and on-water instruction for the physically
disabled. JGASP is a public/private partnership with the Chicago Park
District whereby the Foundation raises funds for instructor salaries,
boats and maintenance costs while the Park District operates the
Program on a day-to-day basis. The fleet consists of eight Freedom
20's, six Sonars and four 2.4 meter sailboats. The Freedom 20's were
built specifically for disabled sailors and have many safety features
that make this boat the premier boat of choice for a disabled sailing
program. The Sonar and the 2.4 meter boats are for more advanced racing
sailors and are used in world disabled championships, such as the
Paralympics. All boats are very stable and will not capsize.
Center Portion, along with On Track Marketing (who designed and operates our website), has been a long-time supporter and sponsor of this noteworthy program. As sailors ourselves, we understand the powerful feeling of freedom on the water, and want to do all we can to make it available to everyone.
