NEXT EVENT

2012

Schedule TBA

2011 was a banner year of programming at Center Portion, featuring the Mayoral Tutorial, a screening of indie film, Waste Land, and the Holiday concerts with The Crooked Mouth, just to name a few. We are still putting together this year's schedule, and look forward to hosting original writing and performance in our Logan Square space.

There is plenty going on elsewhere in Chicago, and here are a few things Sheila Donohue recommends checking out:

It’s A Girl

with Aerin Tedesco

featuring musicians: Jason McInnes, Lindsay Weinberg,
Miki Greenberg, Elizabeth Breen.

This music is joyous, generous, and genre-less. Four voices, piano, banjo, ukulele, acoustic guitar, 2 oboes and other surprises in a burst of original energy that leaves the cup half full.

“It’s A Girl is like a combination of 60's Brit pop, Steven Sondheim, Yonder Mountain String Band, They Might Be Giants, and the B-52s.”
-Emily Hurd and Aerin Tedesco

Opening for It's a Girl was folk favorite Aerin Tedesco. Often heard at the Old Town School of Folk Music with her band, Congress of Starlings, Aerin offered the crowd at Center Portion a rare solo show. Her songs and voice are soaring, powerful musical manifestations of an experienced heart and a quicksilver mind.
